« Les Belles Sorties » returns for a 15th edition

From January to June 2025, Lille Metropole continues to bring culture closer to its municipalities, offering a rich and affordable cultural program for all.

Les Belles Sorties, which means “the beautiful excursions”, is a cultural initiative launched in 2011 by the Lille Metropole to facilitate access to culture, particularly in small municipalities that are often far away from major cultural events. Rather than compelling local inhabitants to travel long distances to cultural facilities, this initiative brings culture directly to these small and medium-sized communities.

With a budget of 380 000 euros and the support of 14 cultural partners, the programme offers an array of concerts, dance performances, theatre productions and more. All performances are accessible for between zero and five euros, ensuring affordability for all audiences.

To make this ambitious project possible, « Les Belles Sorties » relies on the expertise and creativity of 14 local cultural partners : L’Aéronef ; L’Atelier lyrique de Tourcoing ; Le Ballet du Nord CCN & Vous ! ; Le Choeur régional des Hauts-de-France ; Le Colisée ; La Compagnie de L’Oiseau-Mouche ; Le Grand Bleu ; Le Gymnase CDCN ; L'Opéra de Lille ; L’Orchestre National de Lille Le Prato ; Le Théâtre du Nord ; Le Vivat ; La rose des vents.

Since July 2021, Lille Metropole has expanded its action: each summer, Les Belles Sorties returns with a dedicated public street art programme in partnership with three local cultural institutions: the Prato (circus arts), Renart (street art) and the Aeronef (one of the largest music scenes in France).

In 2024, the summer edition attracted an additional partner: the Ballet du Nord organised a participatory athletic choreographic ball. The inhabitants had the opportunity to dance during three representations with dancers and animators. This summer edition has already brought these artistic events to 24 towns and near 4,000 spectators.

In keeping with the Lille Metropole involvement, these two initiatives combine eco-responsability (from the metropole but also for its municipalities and partners) with co-construction. This helps to raise awareness on ecological and inclusive matters, and guides residents in the transition of their practices.

Among the commitments made:

  • Accessibility of events for people with disabilities;

  • Waste reduction and sorting at all sites;

  • Use of bottle and returnable cups;

  • Access to events via soft mobility or public transport;

  • Team accommodation as close as possible to the event venue.

Les Belles Sorties is a Lille Metropole initiative generating a cultural dynamic throughout the region, spreading art beyond the walls, reaching out to the youngest residents as well as those furthest away and rebuilding local links. By taking place in small and medium-sized towns, the cultural sector is able to meet local people and create new vocations and passions. In fact, artists often stay after a performance to chat with the audience. Thus, since 2011, Les Belles Sorties has involved:

  • 14 editions and over 943 performances;
  • Over 120,000 spectators, i.e. over 8,000 spectators a year;
  • 78 municipalities involved since the beginning;
  • 14 associated cultural structures and over 4,200 artists involved across the region.
