Lille Metropole joined the POLIS annual conference in Karlsruhe
POLIS is a network of European cities and regions working together to develop innovative technologies and policies for local transport. Lille Metropole has been a member of this network since 1999 and chairs the ‘parking’ working group.
A thrilling 2-days conference in Karlsruhe
Every year, POLIS organised a structural event where all members of the network, academics, political and industry representatives meet. The Land of Baden-Württemberg and the city of Karlsruhe hosted this year’s conference.
Throughout the event, conferences are scheduled with 32 workshop sessions, 6 field visits and 2 plenary sessions on the themes of ‘Fix that Mix: Exploring multimodal futures’ and ‘Charting or changing the course?’.
‘Managing parking: rethinking urban space’ workshop
Olivier Asselin, responsible for parking policies at Lille Metropole and chair of the POLIS ‘parking’ working group moderated the ‘Managing parking: rethinking urban space’ workshop.
This workshop gave participants the opportunity to hear about innovative European initiatives in terms of parking policies and to draw inspiration from them. It was also an occasion for fruitful exchanges between professionals.
Several mobility professionals were invited to take part in this workshop:
- Clément Sermondadaz from the City of Paris who presented the problematic of the SUV boom in Paris and how to face it;
- François Sabbatini from Bruxelles Envrionnement who discussed an identification criteria for public parking lots serving the city;
- Eric Simon form the Ministry of Transport Baden-Württemberg & Fabian Meurer from Nahverkehrsgesellschaft Baden-Württember who focused on how to use parking management as a driver for climate protection;
- Urban Jeriha from IPoP - Institute for Spatial Policies who showcased the Slovenia’s national guidelines on establishing standards for parking policies;
- Johannes Rodenbach from Autodelen.net who talked about how to calculate replacement ratios for car-sharing integration in housing projects.
