2022 European Sport Forum in Lille Metropole!

The European Sport Forum took place on June 16 and 17, 2022. Several hundred people from all over the European Union gathered in Lille Metropole.

Ms Mariya Gabriel, European Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth and Mr. Eric Skyronka, Vice-President for Youth and Sport at Lille Metropole jointly opened the Forum on June 16.

The European Sport Forum took place at Euratechnologies, a site of excellence and innovation located in the heart of Lille Metropole. The Directorate General for Education, Youth, Sport and Culture (DG EAC) and the French Ministry of Sport co-organized the Forum in the context of the French Presidency of the Council of the European Union (PFUE).

By organizing this event, the European Commission creates a space for dialogue between members of the European sport community, the EU institutions and the Member States to exchange views on current and future sport policies.

The theme of this year's European Sport Forum was "European sport: fair, inclusive and fit for a sustainable future". To turn this ambition into concrete actions, the European Commission launched “HealthyLifeStyle4All”, a two-year campaign to promote healthy lifestyles. The European Commission has been encouraging stakeholders to sign a pledge that presents a concrete contribution to HealthyLifeStyle4All.

In partnership with the French Handball Federation, Lille Metropole signed a pledge to highlight Lille Metropole’s committed to working on the deployment of outdoor handball courts in vacant public spaces. The aim is to provide access to sport for all, in particular young people and disadvantaged groups.

Lille Metropole will host the Olympic handball games in 2024. Once the Olympic games are done, the handball fields would remain, which would allow the current and next generations to enjoy it as a heritage of 2024 Olympics and Paralympics.
