Lille Metropole challenges its inhabitants on climate

As we turn on our heating, Lille Metropole considers that our environmental impact is a crucial point to take into account. Is there a better way of doing this than through a challenge?

A fun way of changing habits

In partnership with the Regional House of Environment and Solidarities (Maison Régionale de l’Environnement et des Solidartités - MRES), Lille Metropole launches the “Climate Challenge”. This challenge has a simple objective: improve the inhabitants’ carbon footprint to reach the goal of 2 tonnes CO2 equivalent per year per capita.

The challenge format allows participants to try out new ways of doing things on a daily basis. It will therefore be more natural for them to implement these measures to reduce their impact on the environment in their daily lives.

A first edition focused on housing

On the programme for this first edition is a challenge focusing on housing and habitat. Other themes (food, digital, waste, mobility, etc.) will be proposed in autumn 2025 to take things further.

There are two ways of participating to the challenge: either individually or collectively.  If the inhabitants choose the solo option, they will be guided through the “Climates challenges” app during 4 weeks. They can also participate collectively by joining their municipality or district team, or create their own team with their colleagues, friends or family.
