Lille Metropole on the frontline in the prevention of domestic violence
Lille Metropole has launched its annual campaign to prevent domestic violence. The aim is to raise awareness even further and help victims to break out of their isolation.
With the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women taking place on 25th of November and the Gender Equality Week organised by the European Parliament from 9th to 15th December, it seemed an ideal time to reiterate Lille Metropole’s commitment to combating domestic violence.
A practical guide for the victims and witnesses
Since 2018, Lille Metropole created a prevention guide against domestic violence. This guide contains practical advice on the steps that can be taken for a victim of domestic violence or a witness.
It also details legal information and emergency contacts. It lists useful numbers and existing structures at local level, such as helplines, victim support associations, legal advice centres, existing accommodation facilities, etc.
The guide is updated every year. It is available in digital version here and in printed version for distribution in town halls or cultural and social centres in the territory.
A communication campaign to the public and to the Metropole’s civil servants
Every year, Lille Metropole runs a publicity campaign to raise awareness of the issue among the general public. This year, a Brut video is being shown in public places and posters are being put up on advertising hoardings across the Metropole.
Lille Metropole is also committed to this cause by raising awareness among its employees. On 28th of November, for example, a workshop was held on ‘Combating sexist and sexual violence’. Lille Metropole also offered race bibs to take part in the running event aiming to fight violence against women organised on 22nd of November. Employees were able to take part alongside the General Director.
Beyond raising awareness
The Metropole also provides financial support for local initiatives. For example, for the past 3 years it has been co-financing, with the Département and the State, the job of a social worker in police stations to welcome and advise victims.
These various actions are part of the wider framework with the adoption of the ‘Schéma Métropolitain de Sécurité et de Prévention de la Délinquance (Metropolitan Security and Delinquency Prevention Plan) since 2017.
