Next Eurocities Culture Forum in Lille Metropole

Lille Metropole is happy to inform you, together with the city of Lille, that we will host the next Eurocities Culture Forum in automn 2022.

A few months ago, we received good news from the Eurocities jury about the Eurocities culture forum 2022. Our joint application with the city of Lille has been successful. We will be happy to welcome you to our Metropole for this great cultural event that will take place end September-beginning of October 2022. The precise dates will be communicated very soon in coordination with Eurocities.

The main topic of the Forum will be “resilient and sustainable culture” more precisely how local governments can support cultural actors addressing the climate crisis. Lille Metropole and the City of Lille are engaged towards environmental transition and fighting climate change. We are deeply concerned about the significant implications that climate change has on our livelihood and communities. We need to develop effective policies and collaborative multilevel governance to address global challenges. Transversality and European cooperation is a key component to successfully achieve these goals, and we believe culture has the transformative potential to infuse such important changes.  Also focusing on the link between culture and sustainability as well as the link between arts and nature, the Culture Forum will be connected to  our “UTOPIA” program, the 6th triennal edition of Lille 3000 launched after 2004 Lille European Capital of Culture. If you missed it, have a look to the specific article about Utopia integrated in this Newsletter.

The program of the Culture Forum will foresee a mix of panel discussions, pathways and workshops on sustainability in culture. The first ideas about the pathways communicated to the Eurocities Culture Forum partners are about:

  • Sustainability in performing arts: rethinking events organization in compliance with the Sustainable Development Goals.
  • Sustainability in Museums: a new approach in compliance with the Sustainable Development Goals.
  • Brownfields resorption and valuing industrial heritage through the creation of cultural centers.
  • Design-based solutions to protect and value endangered cultural heritage.

We will be happy to tell you more about in in the coming months.
