Lille Metropole is committed to revitalise its industrial wastelands. La Lainière, a former flagship of the textile industry, is a perfect example of urban redevelopment supported by European funds.
Located on the municipalities of Roubaix and Wattrelos, and close to Belgium, the 33 hectares site of La Lainière is served by the historic boulevard of la Laine and the Eurometropole’s major routes. The redevelopment of this wasteland, launched in 2014, takes place in a broader context of revitalisation of Lille Metropole’s northern side, where most of the former flagships of the French textile industry were located. Thanks to the massive support of the ERDF, in the framework of the ITI (up to 8M€), the site is continuing its economic history to become tomorrow an attractive and sustainable business district.
This future district, creator of economic, human, environmental and heritage values; offers a great mix of usages with activities, housings and qualitative public spaces at the same time… All of this in a pleasant-to live in environment, which is modern and performing on the environmental level. The site will host SMEs and SMIs, small and medium production activities, industrial, handcrafted, tertiary and wholesale trade activities; but also housings with the desire to develop local economy and employment.
La Lainière falls within the goals set by Lille Metropole in its « Charte des parcs d’activités du XXIe siècle », which promotes a sustainable economic development, taking into account mobility, energy performance and renewable energy production requirements. Among other things, this chart guarantees to mesh with the site’s urban and economic environment. It also guarantees the qualitative processing of functions mixity, as well as a link with the blue corridor and the use of soft mobilities. Among the first realisations, la Maison du Projet is the first « cradle to cradle » French building to be conceived with absolutely no impact on the environment.
