EuraMaterials: Driving Europe’s Industrial Transitions through Materials Innovation

Based in Tourcoing, at the heart of Lille Metropole, EuraMaterials is the metropolitan site of excellence dedicated to materials and textile industries.

Based in Tourcoing, at the heart of Lille Metropole, EuraMaterials is the metropolitan site of excellence dedicated to materials and textile industries. For over two decades, it has acted as a catalyst for innovation, competitiveness and sustainable transformation, supporting companies and research actors as they address the profound industrial transitions reshaping Europe.

A Competitiveness Cluster at the Service of Industry

EuraMaterials brings together a unique ecosystem of nearly 300 companies, research laboratories, technical centres and training organisations. Around 70 professionals work on site to accompany innovation projects, foster partnerships and accelerate market access.

Each year, the cluster supports close to 100 companies, animates around 60 professional events and accompanies more than 70 innovation projects.

EuraMaterials operates at the crossroads of technological innovation, economic performance and environmental sustainability. Its action focuses on three strategic pillars aligned with Europe’s priorities:

  • Industry of the Future: digitalisation, automation, data-driven performance and advanced manufacturing.

  • Circular Economy: recyclability, reduced environmental impact and the development of bio-based materials.

  • Advanced and Alternative Materials: innovative solutions for textiles, composites, packaging and industrial applications.

By structuring and stimulating collaborative projects—from idea to industrialisation—EuraMaterials strengthens the visibility of the metropolitan territory, and the competitiveness of French industry.

From Idea to Market: A Comprehensive Innovation Ecosystem

Through its incubator-accelerator, Un Cube Axel, the cluster accompanies start-ups and young industrial ventures at every stage of development:

  • Pre-incubation, to transform an idea into a structured project.

  • Incubation, with expert technical mentoring on materials sourcing, design, prototyping and industrial partnerships.

  • Acceleration, focusing on growth, fundraising, industrial deployment and internationalisation.

Entrepreneurs benefit from high-level technical and strategic support in materials science, industrial processes and prototyping, as well as access to shared technological platforms, a showroom of innovations, training facilities and flexible workspaces. This environment fosters daily interaction between researchers, engineers and entrepreneurs—encouraging collaborative innovation.

Leveraging National and European Funding

Innovation in materials and industrial processes requires robust financing strategies. EuraMaterials plays a key role in helping companies identify and secure regional, national and European funding opportunities, including programmes such as Horizon Europe and the European Regional Development Fund.

By assisting with project engineering, financial structuring and application drafting, the cluster strengthens project credibility and accelerates access to investment.

A Strategic Asset for the Territory and for Europe

Anchored in Tourcoing yet connected to regional, national and European networks, EuraMaterials exemplifies how local ecosystems can contribute to broader European objectives.

Its mission resonates strongly with key EU priorities:

For Lille Metropole, EuraMaterials is more than an innovation hub: it is a driver of economic transformation, an attractor of talent and investment. By supporting the modernisation of materials and textile value chains, and facilitating collaboration between research and industry, it actively contributes to reshaping the metropolitan economy towards higher added value and more sustainable production models.
